Official: Zvezda building 26 transport vessels for Northern Route

MOSCOW, Dec 22 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center (FESRC) Zvezda is building 26 vessels of the 70 vessels necessary for shipments via the Northern Sea Route, Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Viktor Yevtukhov said on Thursday.

“A total of around 70 vessels are necessary now for shipments via the Northern Sea Route. The current order portfolio envisages construction of 26 transport fleet vessels, all of them are being built by Zvezda,” he said.

Yevtukhov added that Zvezda is building 15 gas carriers, 10 AST120K arctic shuttle tankers, and an AST69K shuttle tanker with a deadweight of 69,000 tonnes.

Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov said that the rescue fleet for the Northern Sea Route is also being built.

“Six vessels of the fleet should be commissioned next year. And 10 more in 2024. It is important to adhere to the plan,” he said.
